Visit of the Acropolis (Athens, Greece)
Saturday, May 18th, 2024: Guided tour of the Acropolis of Athens, known as "ἡ Ἀκρόπολις τῶν Ἀθηνῶν" in Ancient Greek and "Ακρόπολη Αθηνών" in Modern Greek. The term "Acropolis" stems from the Greek words "ἄκρον" meaning "highest point, extremity" and "πόλις" meaning "city". It stands as an ancient citadel perched atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the city of Athens, Greece. It holds within its bounds the remains of several ancient structures of immense architectural and historical significance, the Parthenon being the most known among them. While the name "Acropolis" is commonly associated with this site, it's worth noting that the term is generic and refers to several other elevated citadels found throughout Greece. In ancient times, the Acropolis of Athens was also referred to as Cecropia, named after the legendary figure Cecrops, believed to be the inaugural king of Athens.
